Four awards for Iran at French short film festival

TEHRAN-Four short films from Iran won awards at the 2nd Youality International Short Film Festival, which was held in Chantilly, France, last week.

Among the main winners of the festival, announced on November 25, were three films from Iran including “Najan” written and directed by Mohammad Mahdi Bagheri and “Doll” by Rahele Karami, and “Old Flags of Peace” by Mojtaba Saadat, ILNA reported on Wednesday.

Winning the Best Poetic Film award, “Najan” is a 15-minute flick about a deaf boy named Najan. His cunning brother leads him into the woods. Najan agrees to take out his hearing aid to make an important wish by a tree that his brother claims can make them come true. 

“Doll” won the award for the Best Woman Film at the festival. It is about a child worker who tries to sell her flowers.

Receiving the Best Peace Production award, “Old Flags of Peace” has a story about the devastating consequences of war on human life.

In addition, “First Date” directed by Mohammad Amir Jalali received an honorable mention from the French event. 

Youality International Short Film Festival is an annual short film festival based in France aiming to discover international filmmaking talents and make a network of filmmakers all over the world. The festival supports short films of general categories.

Focusing on poetic filmmaking, Youality tries to extend a new approach of introducing beautiful minds of filmmaking talents all over the world. It also seeks to support women filmmakers in a special regard.
